Background
Our Circle is a national organisation that provides quality services to family units formed by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) persons across the country. Informed by the issues and experiences raised through our frontline services, we also provide training and advocacy support, to enhance the visibility, inclusion, and rights of LGBT-formed families living in Belize. Our Circle’s frontline work is delivered by our network of extensively trained volunteers. The services are supported by Our Circle’s staff team and the organisation’s Working Board of Directors.
At this moment Our Circle is going through an exciting institutional development process. A key aspect of that process is the expansion of our current Working Board of Directors through a public call for applicants.
The Working Board of Directors provides high-level leadership and support for the organization, including working closely with the organization’s staff leadership to set long-term organizational goals, provide financial oversight, and secure adequate resources to achieve Our Circle’s goals.
We would like to recruit 4 (four) new, highly committed Working Board members with a strong passion for organizational governance, transformative advocacy, and cutting-edge political issues who are willing to join our diverse international board and contribute to Our Circle's growth. Board Members will be asked to fulfill the following expectations and commitments.

- Support and articulate Our Circle’s mission, vision and values.
- Fundraising and resource development.
- Enhancing Our Circle’s public image.
- Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management.
- Strategic and organizational planning.
- Respond to staff and fellow board members in a timely fashion.
- Assessing its own performance as the governing body of Our Circle.
Time Commitment
- Serve at least one three-year tenure on the Working Board.
- Attend at least 80% of scheduled board meetings, and actively participate by reading all materials and coming to board meetings prepared to discuss items on the agenda. The Our Circle board currently meets monthly via online conferencing. Meetings generally last 1 to 1.5 hours. On occasion, special meetings may be scheduled as needed.
- Dedicate on average ten hours each month to Our Circle, which includes attending board meetings, responding to emails, serving on committees, and performing other activities related to the successful operation of the organization.
Expectations of Individual Board Members
- Know Our Circle’s mission, policies, programs and needs.
- Read and understand Our Circle’s financial statements.
- Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for Our Circle and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary to advance its mission.
- Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve Our Circle’s mission.
- Help identify personal connections that can benefit Our Circle’s fundraising and representational standing.
- Ensure that Our Circle is functioning within relevant laws, its mission and Bylaws.
- Sign an annual conflict of interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose any conflict before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.
- Support the organization’s sustainability by actively supporting fundraising efforts and participating in any board-directed fundraising initiatives. This could include building Our Circle's donor program through individual networks, enlisting friends and associates to contribute to Our Circle, assisting with online campaigns, and promoting Our Circle in the community.
- Follow Our Circle’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.
- Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Our Circle.
Skills and Qualifications

- Time and motivation to prioritize Our Circle and board service.

- Comfortable working with groups in a change process.

- Fundraising.
- National advocacy.
- Nonprofit management / Organizational development.
